Biltmore is Open and Welcoming Guests: Know Before You Go

Hiking

From our historic gardens and woodland trails to the meadows along the French Broad River, enjoy Biltmore at your own pace with nearly 22 miles of hiking trails on the estate. Orientation and detailed maps available at the Bike Barn and Outdoor Adventure Center.

Biking

Explore the estate via more than 20 miles of biking trails, access to which is free for all guests*! Choose from our well-marked, single-track woodland dirt trails for a challenging ride, or our flat, paved trail along the French Broad River for a more leisurely ride. Bring your own bike or rent one from us.

Biltmore’s Bike Barn, located on the second floor of Antler Hill Barn, is your one-stop location for all things biking. Rental bikes, trail-a-bikes, and trailers are available on a first-come, first-served basis. No advance reservations are offered or required. We recommend all guests check in for a trail map and current trail conditions.

Bike Barn hours vary seasonally; please see Estate Hours for current hours.

*Only Biltmore Annual Passholders, lodging guests, and ticketed guests may ride bicycles on estate roads and designated bike trails. Bicycles are considered vehicles in North Carolina and must be operated in full compliance with state vehicle laws and all traffic and directional signage on estate property. Bicycles are prohibited in all non-guest areas and in the shuttle zone in front of Biltmore House. Riders must disembark and “walk” bicycles on garden paths.

Arbor Trace Hike & Shuttle

Closed for the season.

Accessible to guests via shuttle, the Arbor Trace Trail is the estate’s most remote East Side trail system. Enjoy this exciting new experience one of two ways: with a knowledgeable Outdoor Adventure Center guide, or on your own!

Guided Option:

Immersed in the natural beauty of a rarely explored part of the estate, participants will hear Biltmore’s fascinating forestry story, as well as the history of the land and surrounding area (both before and during the Vanderbilts’ era), plus interesting facts about wildlife and plants encountered along the trail. Offering more technical footing (dirt trails with uneven terrain, roots, rocks, and mud), this 3.5-mile hike is recommended for more experienced hikers and walkers.

Shuttle-Only Option:

For hikers interested in exploring the Arbor Trace Trail without a guide, seats in the van may be purchased for roundtrip travel to and from the trailhead; there is no private parking at the trailhead. Shuttle-Only hikers will be dropped off at 2 p.m. and picked up upon the completion of their hike (no later than 4:30 p.m.). Prior to your hike, please download and review our Trail Map.
